Red and Yellow Across Cultures

January 23, 2012 | Mr. Justin Mew |

As the new lunar year is marked today, the colors of red and yellow are seen. The Chinese traditionally view red as the symbolic color for good health. Yellow is considered as the purest of all colors and symbolizes wealth. Hence, the greeting, Gong Xi Fa Cai: congratulations and prosperity. In the Hawaiian Culture, the colors red and yellow are colors of the alii or royalty. One would think that Niu Valley Alumni are showing their colors proudly--red and yellow are also our school colors!
