Supplier has Sold Out NVMS PE Shorts

Since the supplier has exhausted their supply of NVMS PE shorts, the requirement for using them has been waived until mid-first quarter. A new shipment is expected in about one month. However, all students must wear NVMS PE t-shirts during PE.

Earthquake Felt at NVMS. No damages.

At about 10:31 am today, we felt and heard a "sonic boom-like" event in the direction of Koko Head/Koko Crater. It turned out to be a 3.5 magnitude earthquake off Waimanalo. All is well here at Niu Valley Middle.

Flossie’s Impact on Niu Valley/East Honolulu: Weather Bug Weather Station and Camera Operational

The Friends of Niu Valley Middle School funded the purchase and installation of a top of the line weather station and camera. It has been providing real time weather data and visual view of weather conditions for student analysis as well as community preparedness. Today, the camera is trained over our central courtyard through Koko Head, where one can see surf conditions. Check out this link to the Online Weather Center, directly linked to our school.

Tropical Storm Threat Level Upgraded for Oahu: WARNING

Be warned of the new threat level posed to the Island of Oahu by Tropical Storm Flossie: WARNING. Be prepared to secure outdoor items, clear drainage gratings/water escape routes. Flash Floods will likely occur. Be informed. Practice safety. Heed to advisory posted by the State Civil Defense and National Weather Service. May the Force be with You.

Breaking News: Music Parent Meetings POSTPONED Due to Flossie Warning

Due to the potential harmful effects of Tropical Storm Flossie on Oahu, the mandatory parent meetings originally scheduled for tomorrow and Tuesday has been POSTPONED to Monday, August 5. Oahu remains "in the cone" of the projected path of Flossie's high winds (60 mph) and rains.

Tropical Storm Advisory: Flossie Approaching Hawaii

Hawaii State Civil Defense has notified the Department of Education chain of command regarding Tropical Storm Flossie, currently approaching Hawaii from the south. Flossie may bring tropical storm force winds and rain to our state on Monday, July 29 through Tuesday, July 30. This will depend of the storm strength patterns over this weekend. Be prepared. Be ready. Blogs to this website and Text Blasts to 80850 be sent as I am informed.

Confirming New Family Orientation Time as 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Families new to Niu Valley Middle School are encouraged to attend an orientation session to be held next Monday, July 15th, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This website calendar has been updated to be consistent with the publicized times found on our marquee and printed flyers. The session will be led by Head of School, Principal Justin Mew, with presentations by Counselor Michele Baldovi, PCNC Joanne Imada, and Friends of Niu Valley Middle School (FNVMS) President Dr. Bob Spear. There will be informational tables and light refreshments courtesy of the FNVMS.

International-Mindedness: NVMS to Host Japanese and Koreans

International Mindedness is one of the foundational principles of the International Baccalaureate. This is also a part of our school mission. In August, we will be hosting students from Sera Town Middle School (Hiroshima, Japan) and Teachers of English from South Korea. Check the calendar on this website for specific dates.

Schoolwide Wireless Networking Completed. Connectivity Issues Being Resolved

The contractor has upgraded our school' s network infrastructure for state-of-the-art school-wide wireless capabilities. Additionally, we are now connected to the Department of Education's Wide Area Network (fiber optic WAN). Due to the following concerns, we are not "plug and play with appliance reliability:" Security and server communications. Have patience. Teachers and staff who are preparing for the next school year are advised to plug directly into your room port via Ethernet. Have an alternate plan in the event you are not able to access the system.
