NVMS’ Aidan James, Train, at NFL Pro Bowl Today

Our very own grade 6 student, Aidan LaPrete-Powell (aka Aidan James), will be performing today at the NFL Pro Bowl in Aloha Stadium. Aidan has a part in the Opening Ceremonies--check out the "animated kid" on the 50 yard line. Additionally, he will perform during a timeout. Train is in town as the featured group during the halftime show! Yesterday, Train was filming their new video, "Mermaid," and invited Aidan to perform with them. Mermaid should debut in two weeks.

Cheer Squad Got Our Back!

The Niu Valley Cheer Squad exemplified the true spirit of supporting our teams through thick and thin. While our boys basketball team struggled, the Cheer Squad continue to support them to the end. Mahalo, Cheer Squad! Go NVMS Lancer Boys and Girls Basketball Extramural Teams!

Boys Extramural Basketball Teams Struggle But Persevere

Unable to overcome significant height disadvantages, both of our boys teams fell (Gold, 14-37 to Kaimuki Middle; Silver 20-32 to Kalakaua Middle) at yesterday's Oahu Middle School Basketball tournament. Never to shy away from adversity, our boys are to be commended for trying a variety of strategies to defend and score. They represented our school in the spirit of competition.

Extramural Girls Basketball Team Pulls Out an OT Thriller Win

Congratulations to our girl's basketball team for their overtime win over Kaimuki Middle School yesterday, 29-28. It was an exciting team game. Our Lady Lancers showed true grit and prevailed when Lani Cazimero scored the winning basket, followed by our Lancers making a defensive stop to seal the victory!

Welcome Shenzhen NanShan ShiYan School of Guangdong, China

In cooperation with the University of Hawaii Professor Dr. Kate Zhou, Niu Valley Middle School's Mandarin Classes are hosting two teachers and thirteen middle school students from Guangdong, China. They will grace our campus through next Monday, January 28. In Hawaii's history, a significant number of Chinese immigrants were from Guangdong, my paternal grandparents, and maternal grandmother included.

Niu Valley Middle Athletics: Basketball 2-1 Today

Congratulations, Lady Lancer Basketball team for doubling up on Central Middle School today, 27-13! Kudos to the Niu Valley Middle Boy's Silver team for defeating Stevenson Middle 28-20. Our Boy's Gold team were defeated by Kaimuki Middle, 40-20. Whether our teams were ahead or behind, our Lancer Cheer Squad kept the spirit going strong throughout the contests. The games were Week 1 matches of the Oahu Public Middle School Basketball League at Kilauea Gym. Thank you Lancers for representing our school in athletics.

KHON TV2 to Broadcast Piece on Near-Kidnapping of NVMS Student Tonight at 10:00 P.M.

Originally scheduled to air last night, this piece was moved off the newscast in favor of the sad story of the beached baby humpback whale in Maunalua Bay near Aina Haina. Amhor/Reporter Marissa Yamane informed me that the segment on the near-kidnapping will air tonight on the KHON TV2 News at 10:00 P.M. It will then be available on their website.

Reminder: Early Release Tomorrow

Students will be released 45 minutes early tomorrow, at 12:30 p.m. This will enable the faculties of Niu Valley Middle and Kaiser High to meet jointly to strengthen Grade 6-12 curricula, instructional strategies, and assessments.
