In yet another sign of academic prowess, students taking Algebra I last year topped the state in their collective performance in the mandated "End of Course" (EOC) exam. All students in middle, intermediate and high school who took Algebra I needed to take the EOC. Niu Valley Middle School average was a whopping 351. What does this number mean? 328 and higher Exceeds Proficiency. 300 to 328 Meets Proficiency. 263 to 300 Approaches Proficiency. Our Complex Area average was 287. The State average was 276. When compared against similar schools: NVMS fared better than 84% of them. Approximately 16% of similar schools had about the same average score.  0% of similar schools did better than Niu Valley Middle! Parents, individual results are being sent to the current high school for distribution to you. Congratulations, Class of 2017 Algebra 1 students, for your hard work, which led to exemplary performance on the EOC. We are proud of you and thank you and the NVMS Mathematics Department for earning the distinction of Hawaii's top public school Algebra I students.

By Mr. Justin Mew on September 09, 2013

Our Cross Country Girl's Team placed 5th out of 12 schools and brought home an engraved plate. They were the top public school team. The Honolulu Marathon Invitational Cross Country Meet was held at Henry J. Kaiser High School on Saturday, September 7th. Congratulations to medalists Jenna Ikegami (5th place) and Jacilyn Sera (16th place). The NVMS Boys Team placed 7th of 14 teams, and was only one point from finishing as the top public school. Much appreciation to all Niu Valley Middle School Lancer Athletes who have been training in the Niu Valley neighborhood and nearby communities, then representing our school in this prestigious meet. Kudos to NVMS Faculty coaches Mr. Jonathan Oshiro and Mr. Garrett Hatakenaka. Volunteer Parent Coach Steve Jacobson, a former collegiate coach, has been lending his time and expertise as well. Go NVMS Lancer Athletes!
